FTH 2022 has wrapped, with a record smashing total of over $53k donated to progressive nonprofits. YOU DID THAT, and we can’t thank you enough.
We will be back to do it all again next year, and we hope you will be, too, but until then:
Don’t forget about these upcoming deadlines: April 1 for creators to contact bidders, April 8 for bidders to contact creators, June 30 for bidders to provide a workable prompt for their creator, and December 31 for your fanwork to be completed.
If you’re an FTH creator who needs a bit of help with a sticky point in your fanwork, don’t forget that the Regiment of Fan Laborers has volunteered their time and talents to help you!
If you’ve completed your 2022 fanwork, tell us about it here! We will no longer be checking things like tumblr tags/mentions and the AO3 collection regularly; the only way to be sure you get credit for completing your auction is to let us know via this form.
If you’re interested in starting your own auction or other fanwork nonprofit event, email us at fandomtrumpshate at gmail and we can provide resources to help you get started!
If you need to get in touch with us for anything else, please send us a note at fandomtrumpshate at gmail. We cannot guarantee a response if you use any other way to contact us besides email.
This year, FTH added the option to donate to a handful of abortion funds as well as your local fund to our list of nonprofits in response to the oppressive abortion ban in Texas.
Of course, things have not exactly gotten better in the past month and a half.
With the threat of the Supreme Court using the Texas ban to overturn Roe vs Wade looming, several more states have been emboldened to pass their own unconstitutional abortion bans. Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Florida have all passed strict new laws just in the past week.
It's more important than ever to act locally to help keep safe abortions available to everyone who wants one. Here are a few steps you can take today:
If you can, donate to help them help pregnant people access safe abortion care. In addition to paying the medical costs, many provide transportation and other help accessing abortions, all of which costs money.
Some are looking for volunteers to man phones, provide transportation, and take care of other necessary tasks. Check and see if your local abortion fund could use a helping hand!
If you can't donate right now and you don't have time to volunteer (or if your local fund isn't looking for volunteers right now), sign up for their email list and follow them on social media. This will allow you to you stay abreast of local developments, be the first to hear if they do need help, and signal boost to help make sure the people in need of abortion care hear about their work!
What is Sunflower Auction? Sunflower Auction is an online fanworks auction, designed to raise money for nonprofit organizations that help the people of Ukraine fight back against Russia’s invasion. This event is modelled after other fandom auctions like @fandomtrumpshate.
Is Sunflower Auction run on Tumblr? No, it is run on Dreamwidth: https://sunflower-auction.dreamwidth.org/ Our tumblr functions as a mirror for people who prefer to receive updates on this platform. For the most up-to-date information, please check the Dreamwidth community.
What fandoms are included? Any of them! There are no restrictions on fandom or pairing/gen or rating or whatever. Anything goes and everyone is invited.
Are you selling fanworks? No. People donate directly to non-profits, then forward proof of donation to the moderators. As thanks, a creator creates a gift work.
How do I participate in the auction? You can signup as a creator using this google form.
You can offer multiple times. If you offer different media (eg: art and writing), you will need to submit the form for each medium. If offering multiple times the same medium, just specify in the notes. Please only offer what you can reasonably expect to fulfill.
AUCTION CALENDAR April 25 2022 to May 10 2022 – creator signups – OPEN! May 12 2022 to May 30 2022 – bidding June 10 2022 – proof of donation due from bidders

In its first five years, beginning shortly after the 2016 election in the US, the FTH auction raised a total of $138,000. Our first year and 2020 were big; some of the non-election years, not quite as much. Out of those five years, our fundraising record was $32,732 in 2020. And we were pretty happy with that, because every cent was going to help amazing nonprofits that are doing difficult and important work.
But this year. This year.
…
This was the year that all of you blew it out of the water.

This year, the total amount raised was…

You read that right. Over 1.5x and $20,000 more than our previous record!
This brings our six-year total to an astounding $192,146!
From the amazing fandom ambassadors who helped us spread the word about FTH in their fandoms, to the 626 creators who signed up to offer fanworks (in over 400 different fandoms and subfandoms!) to the hundreds of bidders, to the 30 people who donated a total of $4000 in honor of ROFL, in addition to or instead of donating in exchange for specific fanworks… you all made this happen. We’ve never had a year like this before. But we hope we’ll have some more like it in the future.
We hope all of you amazing, wonderful people will stick around for future years, to help us keep helping those organizations who are fighting the good fight.
Because yes, we will most certainly be back again next year!
In the meantime, your FTH mods are going to enjoy a couple of celebratory drinks, and a couple of long naps, and then get back to refueling for next year (and catching up on all the non-FTH stuff we’ve been neglecting for the past few months.)
But if you don’t want to wait that long—if you’re feeling energized and inspired by what the fandom community can accomplish, if you’re upset by what you see on the news or outside your window and you want to do more to help, right now—here are some things you can do:
1) Stay connected to our supported organizations.
Every organization on our list has an annual operating budget under $10 million. Several of them operate on less than $1 million per year. We picked them not only because they do amazing work, but because every additional dollar really matters to them. So we encourage you to keep donating throughout the year, if and when you can. Some of these organizations also need the help of volunteers, either to contact political representatives or to show up and assist with the work on the ground. If you have the wherewithal, consider doing these things! If you can’t volunteer or donate beyond FTH, get on their mailing list or follow them on social media and signal-boost their work whenever you can.
2) Organize your own auction or fanworks-for-donations exchange.
FTH is a huge operation in many ways, but we’re still limited — in some ways, we’re limited because we’re huge. Single fandom auctions are faster and easier to organize, and are much more streamlined. FTH is also focused almost exclusively on the US — and even here, there are hundreds of worthy organizations that don’t make our list.
If there’s a cause that’s important to you or your fandom, and if you think you could get a couple dozen creators to sign on to raise money for a good cause, let us know: we can help you get started! We have a package of materials we’ve shared with the organizers of dozens of other smaller events, and we are happy to share them with you — just drop us an email at fandomtrumpshate at gmail. We also have a brand-new channel in our organizational discord where organizers of auctions and fanwork exchanges can swap ideas and advice.
We also hope you’ll keep up with the vast wealth of wonderful fanworks that will come from this auction (some of which have been posted already!) We’ve created an Ao3 collection for FTH 2022 fanworks (you can also check out the FTH parent collection, which has the collections for every individual year) and you can follow @fth2022fanworks, where we’ll be reblogging completed fanworks as they come in.
Below the cut you’ll find exactly how much we raised for each organization.
We’ll see you all next year, when hopefully we can keep breaking records together!

We’ve gotten a handful of emails from creators who are anxious because they have emailed their bidders but not yet heard back.
While there’s still plenty of time for just about everything, seeing as how we haven’t announced our annual totals yet (this evening!), we do want to make a few quick notes in response to these inquiries:
* It’s ok if creators and bidders haven’t made contact yet! Our contact deadline for creators reaching out to bidders is April 1st. And while we hope bidders will reply to their creators in some way before that point, our official deadline for bidders to give their prompt to their creators is June 30th. Lots of people are especially busy in February and March, and having these later deadlines is what makes it possible for many people to participate in the auction at all.
So if you haven’t gotten a response to your email yet, please be patient, and definitely do not feel abandoned!
* bidders: your creators are excited to hear from you! If you’re a bidder who has gotten an email from your creator and hasn’t yet replied, that’s ok–you aren’t required to reply just yet. But please know that your creator will definitely appreciate hearing from you, even if it’s just a quick note to say “I will write to you again in April” or similar.
If you’ve been thinking about making one final donation – either to one of the wonderful organizations on our main list, or to OutYouth (a Texas-based org that supports trans kids and their families) or Razom (an organization that provides aid and medical supplies to Ukraine) – now is the time! The deadline for donations is 8pm EST, less than three hours from now.
Haven't donated yet? Thinking about a ROFL donation? Consider these orgs!
Even though this year we've broken lots of records in every way, we still have three organizations on our list who haven't broken $1000 in donations. But we think we can get them there!
If you still need to donate for a high bid or second bid, or if you're planning to throw in a little extra for ROFL, please take a look at these three great little groups and consider choosing one of them:
Votebeat - VoteBeat is dedicated to revitalizing and improving local journalism in order to provide access to reliable and trustworthy information about elections.
Afiya Center - Centered in Dallas, TX, Afiya focuses on reproductive justice issues for Black people, including abortion access, maternal mortality, and HIV education.
Chicago Abortion Fund - CAF provides grants and resources to those in the Chicago area — including Indiana and Michigan — seeking abortions.
As a reminder, high bid donations are due TONIGHT by 8pm EST. Second bid donations are due TUESDAY at 8pm EST, and we're extending ROFL donations, so you can get those in through Tuesday night as well!
If you have a second-chance offer, you have until tomorrow night to claim it by making a donation! Even if you don’t, you can make a donation in honor of ROFL! These (and all the other nonprofits on our list) are fantastic organizations that could use any support you have to give.
All three of these organizations remain below the $1000 mark. So if you’ve been considering making an extra donation, please consider sending it to one of them!
